WASHINGTON DC (September 18, 2019) — Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley sent a letter to Secretary of Labor nominee Eugene Scalia seeking assurance that if confirmed, he will enforce whistleblower protections to the fullest extent of the law.

“Whistleblowers are critical to ensuring public safety and preventing waste, fraud and abuse. In the private sector, they alert government authorities to fraud, safety violations, and criminal activity. Congress has enacted dozens of whistleblower laws designed to protect these individuals from retaliation for reporting wrongdoing,” Sen Grassley wrote.

“As a longtime advocate for whistleblower protections and the Chairman of the Whistleblower Protection Caucus, it is critically important for me to understand your views on this issue. More importantly, the American people both expect and deserve a Secretary of Labor who will fully and faithfully enforce our nation’s whistleblower laws.”

Sen Grassley is a longtime advocate for whistleblowers. He is co-chairman and co-founder of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the need for adequate protections against retaliation for private-sector and government employees who call attention to wrongdoing. The caucus works to foster bipartisan discussion on legislative issues affecting the treatment of whistleblowers and serves as a clearinghouse for current information on whistleblower-developments of interest in the Senate.
