WASHINGTON DC (April 9, 2019) — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles "Chuck" Grassley today issued the following statement after the joint announcement of federal indictments and law-enforcement actions in one of the largest health-care fraud-schemes in American history. The schemes affected hundreds of thousands of patients and allegedly caused more than $1.2 billion in losses to the federal government.
"Excellent work by all the federal officials involved in bringing down this scheme and potentially saving taxpayers from being bilked out of another billion dollars," Sen Grassley said. "This is exactly how government should work to protect taxpayer dollars and American patients. As chairman of the Finance Committee, I’m especially glad that CMS worked so closely with law enforcement and the inspector general on behalf of beneficiaries. These law enforcement actions should serve as a reminder that criminal activity will eventually be exposed and prosecuted."
