WASHINGTON DC (September 12, 2019) — Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley released the following statement regarding the announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of the Army to repeal the 2015 “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule, which was proposed during the Obama administration.
“Excessive government regulation stifles production, makes living and working harder for millions of Americans and slows economic activity. We’ve seen this time and again, particularly when it comes to the WOTUS rule,” Sen Grassley said. “President Trump and his administration have lifted a heavy burden off the shoulders of farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses in Iowa at a pivotal moment when they’re facing challenges from every angle.”
Sen Grassley has long spoken out against the WOTUS rule and voted to defund the flawed rule. Along with Sen Joni Ernst, Sen Grassley and members of the Iowa congressional delegation urged then-President-elect Trump to scrap the rule and praised EPA in June of 2017 for taking action to withdraw the rule.
