Inspector general response failed to answer most questions posed in senators’ prior letters

WASHINGTON DC (October 16, 2019) — Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; Charles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee; and Mike Lee (R-UT) sent another letter to Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) Michael Atkinson on Wednesday noting that the ICIG’s response to their September 30 and October 2 letters left the vast majority of their questions unanswered and requesting complete answers to their questions.

“Your response mostly repeated information from your press release and failed to answer the vast majority of the questions that we posed. …The information we seek and the questions we are asking should be easily obtained or answered especially in light of your testimony before the intelligence committees. We expect that this — our third request — will be the final time that we have to request that you provide full and complete answers to the Committees,” the sens wrote in their follow-up letter. In addition to reiterating previous questions, the sens added a new request: “A recent report indicates that you told a House Committee that the complainant did not disclose to the ICIG his/her contact with Congress prior to the filing of the complaint. Is this accurate?”
