After receiving dozens of national and local entries for its second-annual contest, the QC Theatre Workshop will present the six winners and finalists in the 2018 Susan Glaspell Playwriting Festival during a special two-part event, with readings of three different scripts performed at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday, February 9, and Saturday, February 10.

Taking place at the QC Theatre Workshop (1730 Wilkes Avenue, Davenport), this year's festival – named after the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Davenport native – will begin on Friday the 9th with readings of plays by two area-theatre veterans: “Local Adult Category” winner Alone by Alexander Richardson, and “Local Adult Category” finalist Through the Fence by Jason Platt. The evening will also include “Local Youth Category” champion Rigid Image by Roger Pavey Jr., a frequent performer with Davenport Junior Theatre.

On Saturday the 10th, the featured scripts will include “Local Adult Category” finalist Eddy's Girls by Augustana College student Emma Brutman, whose original script The Lilith Play was this category's winner in 2017, along with “National Category” co-winners In the Buff by Coco Mault and Max Sparber and I Await the Devil's Coming by Dierdre Girard.

The 2018 Susan Glaspell Playwriting Festival will be presented under the QC Theatre Workshop's “Pay What It's Worth” pricing policy in which guests see the plays first and then pay afterward, allowing viewers to determine what the experience was worth to them personally. This innovative strategy was designed to create a wholly accessible theatrical experience for patrons regardless of financial means, and has been in place ever since the Workshop's 2012 debut.
