Rock Island, IL: Teens will find plenty of ways to pursue a special interest this April with free events at Rock Island Public Library locations.

On Tuesday, April 4, the library offers a Teen Perler Bead night from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Rock Island 30/31 Branch bookstore, 3059 30th Street. Perler® is a brand name for fusible plastic beads that are placed on a plastic pegboard to form designs and then fused together with an iron. Teens can choose from patterns or create their own design and then take their art home. This event is for ages 12 to 18.

On Tuesday, April 18, the library's monthly Tween and Teen Gaming Night moves to a new time. The event, which offers video and board games for ages 8 to 18, will now be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Rock Island Main Library Community Room, 401 19th Street. The event offers a selection of video games on Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360, snacks, and board games to play, and an opportunity to take over the library's Pokemon Gym. This event is for ages 8 to 12 and 12 to 18.

To wrap up April, the library's Teen department offers Anime Night on Thursday, April 27, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, also at the Main Library. Fans of Japanese animation can choose which anime to watch, try their hand at writing Japanese hiragana characters, and try some Japanese snacks. This event is for ages 12 to 18.

Upcoming events to watch for include the library's celebration of "May the Forth be With You Day" on Thursday, May 4. The library celebrates all things Star Wars with an event for all ages from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Rock Island Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road. The free after-library hours event features a recent Star Wars movie, popcorn, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and trivia for prizes.

All of the above events are free and do not require registration. For more information about Rock Island Library hours, services and programs, visit the library's online branch at www.rockislandlibrary.org, call 309-732-READ, or follow the library on Facebook or Twitter.
