DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 4, 2024)  The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Quad Cities area residents to attend their annual Memories in the Making event on Friday, May 3, 5:30–10PM, at Vibrant Arena at The Mark. Paintings created by locals living with Alzheimer’s or dementia in the Memories in the Making Art Therapy program will be available to bid on in a silent and live auction. All proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association to support Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

The Memories in the Making Art Therapy program helps those living with the disease that have lost the ability to use words, express their thoughts and emotions, and share memories through paintings with watercolors. It’s a way to improve the quality of life for people living with the disease and bring their stories and feelings to light.

“Art is a powerful form of communication. In each stroke of a brush is a feeling, a word. . . a memory,” says Tessa Pozzi, Memories in the Making Committee Member and Marketing Specialist at Friendship Manor. “What the Memories in the Making Art Therapy program has done is offer those living with Alzheimer’s and dementias use this tool of communication to convey very powerful statements and memories, even if they are non-verbal or struggle to express with words as they once had. What the Gala does is allow us to share these artists and their memories with the public.”

Tickets for the Memories in the Making event are available at QCMemories24.givesmart.com, and more information about the Alzheimer’s Association can be found at alz.org/iowa.
