DAVENPORT, IOWA (August 2, 2024) — On 1 August 2024 at approximately 1234 hours, Scott Emergency Communications received a report of an accident involving a train and truck in the area of the Pleasant Valley Amoco. Units from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with Bettendorf Fire Department and MEDIC EMS were dispatched. Bettendorf Police Department also responded to assist.

The rail line is owned by CPKC and the train by BNSF. The train was traveling towards Bettendorf and consisted of approximately 25 cars and two locomotives. A garbage truck owned by Dump Box LLC bearing Iowa tags of LDR836 was heading towards Highway 67 from 245th Avenue. The garbage truck failed to stop and yield the right of way to the train and was struck broadside on the passenger/right side of the vehicle. The driver of the garbage truck upon collision was ejected through the front windshield of his vehicle. The train went into an emergency stop, which takes time. The garbage truck was pushed down the tracks until the train came to a stop. The driver of the garbage truck was able to walk down the tracks to meet with responding personnel.

The garbage truck driver, along with the train crew (conductor and engineer) were all transported to local hospitals for further treatment and evaluation. Initial reports indicate all parties are expected to be released with minor injuries.
