IOWA CITY, IOWA (June 18, 2019) — Trees Forever recognizes Iowa Nut Growers Association (INGA) with the Outstanding Group and Organization Award. Mary Ellen Miller accepted the award on behalf of INGA during the Iowa City Annual Celebration and Award Dinner on June 13 at the Celebration Farm (located at 4696 Robin Woods Lane NE, Iowa City). Through field days, agroforestry workshops, specialty workshops like grafting or nut-processing, INGA consistently works towards promoting the value of trees to farmers, landowners, and interested citizens. INGA is more than a partner in name only: They actively promote trees and natural areas and seek new opportunities to engage landowners and interested citizens on the multiple benefits that nuts, and the trees that go with them, can provide. "Nut trees are a great way to help landowners make a profit as they create valuable habitat for wildlife and improve our air, water, and soil," Trees Forever Communications and Marketing Manager Jackie Wedeking said. "Iowa nut-growers are making a positive impact, and we're happy to cheer on their work and encourage other landowners to plant nut trees." Every year, Trees Forever recognizes outstanding volunteers, environmental stewards, partners, and advocates at Trees Forever's Annual Celebration and Awards Dinner. "Every one of our volunteers and landowner has made a brighter, greener future for the next generation, but these awards recognize the most outstanding — those who truly exemplify the Trees Forever mission," Trees Forever CEO and Found President Shannon Ramsay said. The nonprofit engages an average of 7,000 volunteers every year and has more than 500 sites on farms and other lands to enhance water quality, pollinator and wildlife habitat. Trees Forever is a nonprofit organization nationally headquartered in Marion, Iowa, that is dedicated to planting trees, encouraging volunteer and youth involvement, and environmental stewardship. For more than 25 years, we've been planting a better tomorrow. For more information visit www.treesforever.org or call 800-369-1269.
