“The Importance of Sleep” Program at the Davenport Library

It’s just sleep – what’s all the fuss? Join us at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30pm when The REM Center from Moline will talk about what happens during sleep, the disorders affecting your eight hours and the keys to a good night’s sleep.

Alzheimer’s Association Series at the Davenport Library

Jerry Schroeder from the Alzheimer’s Association will present a series of lectures covering various issues associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Join us at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) every Tuesday in January beginning January 16 at 3:30pm. The topics discussed will be:

January 16 – Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research

January 23 – Alzheimer’s Disease: Know the Ten Signs (Early Detection Matters)

January 30 – Alzheimer’s Research: Where We’ve Been, Where We’re Going

Winter Reading Program at the Davenport Library

Chill Out and Read at the Davenport Public Library! Our 2018 Winter Reading Program will begin on January 13 and run through February 28 and is open to all ages.

Stop by any Davenport Library location beginning January 13 and pick up a Bingo card. Score a Bingo by completing five activities such as read a book, attend a library program, follow the library on Facebook and many others! Finishers will receive a bookmark and an entry in the grand prize drawing where you could win a Kindle Fire, an Amazon gift card or a hand-knit blanket made by the Fireside Knitters.

Kickoff the Winter Reading Program by joining us at Fairmount on Saturday, January 13 at 10:00am for a special Winter Storytime. Families will enjoy a flurry of songs, stories and a cozy winter craft. Then stick around for Book Friends Bingo at 11:00am. We’ll create our own bingo card of favorite book characters followed by 20 minutes of Bingo fun!

STEM Lab at the Davenport Library

Try your hand at Squishy Circuits. Create with Strawbees. Build with LEGO and Lincoln Logs. Choose one to work with or try them all at the STEM Lab at the Davenport Library! Join us at Main (321 Main Street) on Thursday, January 18 at 4:00pm for lots of science and engineering fun!

Backyard Chickens Program at the Davenport Library

DO count your chickens before they’re hatched! If you’re interested in raising chickens in your backyard you need a plan. Join us at Fairmount (3000 Fairmount Street) on Thursday, January 18 at 6:00pm for information on Backyard Chickens. Presenters are Davenport residents and certified trainers in accordance with the city ordinance and will be able to answer questions if you are interested in seeking a permit.
