2019 Award Winners: St John Vianney Catholic Church (above) and St Paul Lutheran Church

DAVENPORT, IOWA (November 7, 2019) — The Vera French Foundation hosted its annual Gala on Saturday, October 26th at The Outing Club in Davenport, Iowa. The event celebrated the organization’s 70th anniversary. Since 1949, Vera French Community Mental Health Center (previously the Scott County Mental Health Center before being renamed after Dr Vera French in 1982) has been providing community mental health services.

Each year at the Gala, the Friend of Vera French Award is presented to an individual, family, or organization that supports the mission of the Vera French Foundation — showing generosity and compassionate awareness for those affected by mental illness.

The 2019 Friend of Vera French Award recipients were St John Vianney Catholic Church and St Paul Lutheran Church. Father James Vrba of St John Vianney Catholic Church and Pastor Peter Pettit of St Paul Lutheran Church were in attendance to receive the awards.

Foundation Executive Director, Nathan Sondgeroth, presented the awards and stated that, “Vera French is proud to have the support of these organizations and are inspired by the way they continue to value mental health in their own faith communities.”

With the help of generous sponsors, hardworking staff and volunteers, dedicated board members, and compassionate community members, over $65,000.00 was raised at the event for community mental-health services offered at Vera French.

Vera French Foundation truly appreciates the community support surrounding this event and the organization’s work to offer quality, accessible, and comprehensive mental-health services for all.
