DES MOINES, IA (08/03/2017) (readMedia)-- With over one million people visiting the Fair annually numerous volunteers are needed for the Iowa State Fair to be a success. The Iowa State Fair August 10-20, is seeking volunteers and donations for the Sew-In, Andringa Family Foundation Little Hands on the Farm, Country School and the information booths.

Sew-In

The Iowa State Fair Sew-In is seeking fabric donations, sewing associates and volunteers. The free program offers Fairgoers of any skill level a chance to try their hand at sewing and quilting, while providing warm blankets to local children in need. Since the Sew-In began in 2009, volunteers have created 2,323 quilts for Iowa children in need.

You can participate in the Sew-In program by:

• Donations of five-inch wide strips (cut width of fabric)

• Donations of 2 yards of fabric in all-cotton juvenile prints and patterns for quilt fronts and backings

• Donations of cash to help cover quilt batting and materials

• Serving as a sewing associate (some sewing background appreciated)

• Volunteering (any skill level welcome)

Andringa Family Foundation Little Hands on the Farm

The Iowa State Fair is looking for volunteers to assist in the ever popular Andringa Family Foundation Little Hands on the Farm for the upcoming Fair. Little Hands teaches children the importance of agriculture and how it impacts their daily lives in a fun and interactive way. Children ages 2 to 10 can become farmers at this popular free, hands-on exhibit. For more information contact Emily Wynn at ewynn@iowastatefair.org or call 515/401-1544.

Information Booth Volunteers

The Fair is always interested in volunteers to staff information booths and diaper-changing/nursing stations. For more information contact Paula Barnes, Volunteer Superintendent, at iowafairvolunteer@gmail.com or call 515/360-9589.

Country School Volunteers

The Fair is seeking volunteers to staff the Country School in Heritage Village. Volunteers will receive an admission ticket to the Fair for their scheduled three hour shift. For more information contact Angel Bingham at abingham@iowastatefair.org or call 515/401-1521.
