MOLINE, ILLINOIS (March 6, 2020) — WQPT–PBS for the Quad Cities Region and Western Illinois University — Quad Cities’ Student Services encourages all Quad Citizens to submit images of art, photos, and designs for possible display in the 5th Annual Campus Art Show. A limited number of works will be selected by a panel of judges, but the deadline for entry is Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

The show will run from April 1 through April 30, 2020, in the WIU-QC Library.

A Community Reception will be held on Wednesday April 15, 5:30PM, on Western Illinois University — Quad Cities’ campus.

The Exhibition is limited to paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and designs. 2D artwork or designs must be 36” x 36” in dimension or smaller and suitable for easel display (framed, matted, or mounted on a firm backing). 3D Sculptures must be easily movable without special equipment.

The theme for this year’s Campus Art Show is THE GENE. In April, Ken Burns will release a film that brings vividly to life the story of today’s revolution in medical science through present-day tales of patients and doctors at the forefront of the search for genetic treatments, interwoven with a compelling history of the discoveries that made this possible and the ethical challenges raised by the ability to edit DNA with precision. Artwork selected for the Campus Art Show should have a tie to genetics.

“We’re excited to use the 5th Annual Campus Art Show to bring attention to Ken Burns’ upcoming film, THE GENE,” said WQPT Director of Education and Outreach, Michael Carton. “We want to showcase the uniqueness of art in the Quad Cities area, so we hope to get submissions from a wide range of artists”

“The Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Campus Art Show is an exciting way for students, faculty, and staff to view the artistic visions of their colleagues,” said Scott Brouette, Assistant Director of Quad Cities Student Services. “We are excited to expand this event to include the entire Quad Cities Region!”
