DES MOINES, IOWA (August 19, 2019) — Carson Finch of Huxley exhibited the Supreme Champion Heifer in the FFA Breeding Beef show held Thursday at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Ashtyn Danker of Avoca won the Reserve Supreme Heifer title.

Judd Swanton of Goose Lake exhibited the Supreme Champion Cow-Calf, and Kara Gnade of Wyoming received Reserve Supreme Champion Cow-Calf.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (August 18, 2019) — The Quad Cities River Bandits built a solid lead in the middle innings and then hung on late to hold off the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-4 on Sunday evening at Modern Woodmen Park. Cedar Rapids put the tying run in scoring position in each of the last two innings.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 18, 2019) — With a final swing of the gavel, the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) raised $336,000 for the 16 exhibitors of 4-H and FFA Grand and Reserve Champion livestock in the Sale of Champions Saturday at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 18, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all state flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff on Monday, August 19, 2019 until sunset in honor and remembrance of fallen Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy, Stephanie Schreurs. Deputy Schreurs, a 24-year veteran with the department, died from injuries sustained in the line of duty on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. 

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 18, 2019) — Samuel Fine, 13, of Johnston, placed first in the senior division during the championship round of the 60th annual Bill Riley Talent Search Competition held Sunday, August 18, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Fine walked away with an $10,000 prize for his contemporary dance solo performance.

Cali Wilson, 18, of Norwalk, was awarded second place and $5,000 for her lyrical dance solo.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 17, 2019) — "Rosie," the Flemish Giant rabbit, wowed the crowd and tipped the scales at a very impressive 21 pounds to win the Largest Rabbit title at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

The winning rabbit is co-owned by a group hailing from Maquoketa, consisting of Tom and Deona Casel, Mallory and Braelynn Jamison, and Courtney and Mallory Veach.

"Willow" the Flemish Giant shown by Jamie Hora of Tipton, claimed second place at 17.4 pounds.
