May is National Foster Care Month.

Due to the opioid crisis and other substance-abuse issues plaguing communities in Iowa and across the country, the number of kids in foster care is rapidly rising.

In 2017, there were 443,000 kids in care; 96,000 entered foster care because of parental substance abuse.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 14, 2019) — Beto O’Rourke will return to Iowa next Monday for his fourth trip to the state as a presidential candidate. Yesterday, O’Rourke announced that he will participate in a televised CNN Town Hall at Drake University in Des Moines on Tuesday. O’Rourke will also tour flood damage and hold a town hall in Davenport in addition to a town hall in Tipton.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 14, 2019) — Today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced that Iowa applicants applying for the USDA “ReConnect” Grant Program will have a significant advantage in the application process due to the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative and Iowa’s comprehensive plan for broadband internet expansion.

WASHINGTON – Senators Charles "Chuck" Grassley and Dick Durbin, along with Sens Lamar Alexander and Angus King, today introduced bipartisan legislation to codify recent regulations from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to require pharmaceutical companies to list prices of their prescription drugs in direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertisements.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 14, 2019) — “Girls Who Code” is an afterschool club for girls in 6th through 12th grade who are interested in coding. The club encourages beginners to explore coding in a fun and friendly environment.

This program takes place at Fairmount (3000 Fairmount Street) every Tuesday through July beginning June 4 at 3PM. Registration is required.
