SPRINGFIELD – The annual Illinois Peace Officers Memorial Service to honor law enforcement officers killed in Illinois in the line of duty, including six who died in 2017, will be held Thursday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at the Illinois Peace Officer Memorial sculpture on the Illinois State Capitol grounds in Springfield.

Out of an initial field of 27 candidates, three semifinalists will interview for the position of Davenport Fire Chief next week. The semi -finalists include one internal candidate and two fire service chiefs from the Midwest.     In alphabetical order, the semi-finalists are: Michael Carlsten District Chief, Davenport, Iowa Fire   Donald Kaderabek Deputy Chief, Bloomingdale, Illinois Fire  

Jason Morin, Army Sustainment Command Historian at the Rock Island Arsenal will present the next installment in the World War I lecture series, “Gas Attacks.” The lecture will take place at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) on Wednesday, May 9 at 2:00pm. Pavement and sewer improvements on E Locust St between Kenwood Ave and Eastmere Dr are anticipated to begin on Monday, April 30th. Work will begin with stormwater and sanitary sewer improvements, followed by removal and replacement of the asphalt overlay. At least one lane of travel in each direction on E Locust will be maintained at all times during construction. Side streets along this stretch will be closed at Locust for the entirety of the project.

At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners

Mount Pleasant, Iowa: April 25, 2018 – Over 60 voices will be raised in the presentation of Iowa Wesleyan’s Spring Concert At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners. The Iowa Wesleyan University Choir, Primae Voces and The Mount Pleasant Chorale will perform on Sunday, April 29, in University Chapel.  The performance begins at 7 pm.
