Group of 18 attorneys general, six cities challenge Trump administration

DES MOINES — Attorney General Tom Miller — part of a coalition of 18 attorneys general, six cities and the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors — filed a lawsuit to block the Trump administration from demanding citizenship information in the 2020 decennial Census.

Davenport, Iowa (April 3, 2018) – Applications are now available for the 2018 Mississippi Valley Fair Queen Contest.

The winner of the contest will reign during the fair, which is being held July 31 to Aug. 5, and will assist with various fair activities during the week. The winner also will represent Scott County and the Mississippi Valley Fair at the Iowa State Fair’s queen competition. The Iowa State Fair takes place Aug. 9-19, 2018.

QUAD CITIES (KWQC) – Three people have died in Illinois after using synthetic cannabinoids, more commonly known as “synthetic marijuana” or “fake pot.”

Health officials say some of the products have been mixed with rat poison. The chemical poisons the blood and causes people to bleed out if they are not treated in time.

On April 11, 2018 the Scott County Sheriffs Office responded to a fatality accident at the intersection of 240th Avenue and 290th Street south of McCausland. The deceased driver of the vehicle has been identified as Chad Alan Soenksen, 42, of Clinton, Iowa. Soenksen was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic Ambulance.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA –  Friday, April 6, 2018 -  Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today hosted a youth summit in Cedar Rapids which focused on the federal judiciary and its impact on daily lives. Melloy of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and Chief Judge John Jarvey of the U.S.

SPRINGFIELD (Apr. 6, 2018) — Governor Bruce Rauner today signed legislation that makes it easier for teachers with out-of-state credentials to get licensed in Illinois. SB 863 is effective immediately.

“Our state needs to have ready access to qualified teachers,” Rauner said. “This law will help our schools meet shortages and fill other academic needs.”
