As a valued supporter of Metro Arts Alliance, we wanted to share some news with you: the Board of Directors and staff leadership of Metro Arts Alliance of Greater Des Moines made the difficult decision on August 16, 2017 to cease operations after almost 42 years of providing access to the arts in our community.
 

Three Records Set at 2017 Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- With a final swing of the gavel, the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) raised $352,600 for the 16 exhibitors of 4-H and FFA Grand and Reserve Champion livestock in the Sale of Champions Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Three champion records were broken during the 2017 Sale.

DES MOINES – More than 3,000 visitors cast votes in Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual Iowa State Fair Straw Poll. The questions included Iowans’ choice for governor, favorite college mascot, and favorite fair food. The poll was conducted at Secretary Pate’s booth throughout the State Fair, August 10-20.

2018 I.O.W.A. STEM Teacher Award accepting nominations of Iowa teachers

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- Webster Farms of Walker was awarded the Grand Champion Bull banner in the Angus Show judged Tuseday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Schroeder Angus of Clarence claimed Reserve Champion Bull and Champion Iowa Bull titles.

Abby Collison of Rockwell City showed the Grand Champion Female as well as the Grand Champion Iowa Female.

Maddy Udell of Sioux City exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Female.

No Horsing Around for FFA Competitors at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- Champion High Point Horse was awarded to Muddy Waters, owned by Victoria Brandt of AGWSR at the FFA Horse Show judged Wednesday during the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Brandt also claimed Champion High Point Exhibitor honors.

DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- Jacob Van Patten of Altoona won Grand Champion Miniature or Seedling and Reserve Grand Champion Single Spike in the Gladiolus show judged Wednesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Van Patten also won the Sweepstakes award in memory of John J. Witmer.

Practice your frosting skills and learn new decorating techniques at the Davenport Public Library’s Cupcake School for grade-school kids! Cupcake School will be held at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) on Thursdays beginning September 7 and running through September 28 at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue). Classes begin at 4:00pm.
