WHAT: Smithfield Foods and Fareway Food Stores will donate nearly 40,000 pounds of protein to River Bend Foodbank in Davenport as part of Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes® initiative. This considerable donation provides nearly 160,000 servings of protein, a staple of a well-balanced meal, to people in the Quad Cities region where one in eight people faces hunger every day.

Storybooks present enjoyable, meaningful, interactive math explorations to children and adults in Go Figure!--a national traveling exhibit that opens at the Muscatine Art Center on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Go Figure! transforms charming children’s books into a kid-sized world where children and adults can have fun exploring math with familiar characters such as Arthur, Frog and Toad, and Goldilocks and Three Bears.

The Machine Shed is featuring a new sweet treat at the Mississippi Valley State Fair this year - Maple Frosted Candied Bacon Donuts. The donuts are drizzled with a maple glaze and bacon pieces. The Machine Shed will be at the fair – located off of West Locust in Davenport. The fair runs from August 1st to the 6th.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On July 28, 2017, United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger sentenced Jeffrey B. Lackas, Stanley Szeto, and Daniel Cruz-Bonilla for conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. Lackas, Szeto, and Cruz-Bonilla were members of a drug trafficking organization responsible for the distribution of anabolic steroids and human-growth hormones throughout the country.
