DAVENPORT, Iowa, Aug. 03, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Smithfield Foods’ Helping Hungry Homes® initiative, a program focused on alleviating hunger and helping Americans become more food secure, joined forces with Fareway Food Stores to donate nearly 40,000 pounds of protein to River Bend Foodbank. The donation, equivalent to nearly 16,000 servings, will help families fight hunger across Quad Cities, a region where one in eight individuals are food insecure.

August 13 Songbag concert at Sandburg Historic Site to feature Little Joe McLarren

GALESBURG, IL –Blues musician Little Joe McLerran will kick off the Fall Sandburg Songbag Series on August 13, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site in Galesburg.  The Songbag concerts will now be held on the second Sunday of each month starting at 4 p.m.

The Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA OIG) today released the results of its review of the circumstances of veteran Brandon Ketchum’s suicide and whether Ketchum received adequate mental health treatment at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Joni Ernst, Sen. Ron Johnson, and Rep. Dave Loebsack sought the review. They made the following comment.

The Scott County Conservation Board will be conducting a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the opening of the new Summit Cabins at West Lake Park. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 9th at 2:00pm at the cabins, and the public and press are invited to attend. The cabins are located inside Gate 1 adjacent to the Summit Campground.
