Why will you see so many volunteers driving around the Quad-Cities delivering sandwiches on Thursday?

It’s all part of the twelfth annual “Safer Sacks” initiative by The Safer Foundation. Participating businesses and organizations have ordered sandwich lunches that volunteers will deliver to workplaces or diners will pick up for carry-out.

Across Iowa, rural communities are facing a shortage of healthcare providers. This shortage makes it harder for folks living in these underserved areas to get the care and services they need and deserve. No Iowan should have to go without access to healthcare simply because of where they live.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -– April 18, 2017 -- The Genesis Adventures in Nursing Summer Camp (GAIN) will return July 10-14 for young people who may be interested in a nursing career.

The camp will run from 8 a.m.-– noon each day.

Applications for GAIN will be accepted through May 15. Cost for camp is $150. A limited number of scholarships will be available.

This exhibit will open on May 4th and continue until July 3rd and consists of hammered botanical prints, many of the specimens collected in Larry’s gardens.  Hammered botanical printing is an exciting new method of producing art prints developed by Larry, co-owner, with wife Wilma, of Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens in South Amana.  Live plant material from the garden is hammered into a special watercolor paper to produce unique and beautiful images.

Named the Best New Event by the Iowa Tourism Commission in 2015, Wurst Festival is a one day event with the gates opening at 11am at the Market Barn area in the center of the village of Amana.

DAVENPORT, IA - On April 18, 2017, William John Boom, age 65, from Davenport, Iowa, pleaded guilty to making false statements to a federal grand jury, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. This charge carries a maximum potential penalty of not more than five years of imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, a term of supervised release of not more than three years, and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund. Sentencing is scheduled for August 24, 2017, at 2:30 p.m.
