In an effort to take advantage of the intimate relationships between stylists and their clients, a new law in Illinois will require salon professionals to receive training in domestic abuse-prevention as part of their licensing process.

The law, which goes into effect Sunday, aims to educate beauty professionals to recognize signs of abuse. But stylists won't be required to report violence, and are protected from any liability.

As we approach the end of the year, we are also closing out the 114th Congress.  While there is a mountain of work that must still be addressed, I have been busy working across the aisle to overcome the Washington gridlock and advance legislation to benefit the people of Iowa.  A summary of some of those achievements are below.

December 28, 2016 - Ames, Iowa - Emoji keyboards and sticker packs for Iowa's universities launched in the Apple iTunes and Google Play stores today, making them available for free to fans globally.

Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University's apps will launch December 26, 2016.
