ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (November 17, 2023) — More than forty Augustana College students will serve on the college's Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2023-2024 academic year.

SGA representatives have been elected to serve as the liaison between the student body and the faculty, staff, and administration of the college. SGA's mission is to voice the needs and opinions of the student body in an effort to grow Augustana's academic, cultural, and social life.

DES MOINES, IOWA (November 17, 2023) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate increased to 3.2 percent in October, up from 3.1 percent a year ago. The state’s labor-force participation rate decreased from 68.6 percent to 68.4 percent but remains 0.3 percent higher than one year ago. Meanwhile, the US unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent in October, and the national labor-force participation rate fell to 62.7 percent.

The Initial Proposal encompasses Iowa’s proposed implementation of $415,331,313 of broadband infrastructure funding made possible through the Investment Infrastructure and Jobs Act (IIJA). 

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (November 15, 2023) — The American Farm Bureau Federation reports the average cost of this year's Thanksgiving meal for ten is $61.17, a 4.5% decrease from last year. However, the cost is still 25% higher than in 2019.

Those living in the Midwest will reap the benefits of a more affordable Thanksgiving meal, averaging $58.66.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (November 15, 2023) — November 15 is America Recycles Day. As we enter Fall and tidy up for the holidays, consumers can create a large amount of waste. In 2022, citizens of Rock Island County landfilled 410,854 tons of waste. A single garbage truck weighs ten tons. The total amount of annual landfill material in Rock Island County equates to 41,085 garbage trucks. The goal is to reduce 50% of the waste going to landfills.
