Tickets: $20 adults, $15 Riverdog Season Pass holders. Veterans, military personnel and their immediate family receive a 20% discount off of regular adult-priced tickets as part of Riverside's Blue Star Theatre Program.

"A Grateful Nation" is sponsored by River Products Company, Inc.

About the Play

"A Grateful Nation" recreates what life was like in small Midwestern towns during the World War II years using stories from interviews, old letters, family lore, and wartime editions of The Columbus Gazette.  Projections of local wartime photos will be shown throughout the play, giving faces and context to the stories with period music completing the mood.

The events and anecdotes in the play are centered on stories and people from Columbus Junction, Iowa - a town about 35 miles southeast of Iowa City where authors Rick Williams and Ron Clark grew up.  "Though the majority of the stories we tell are about people in our town," says Clark, "anyone from any town could do the research and uncover similar tales." Adds Williams, "It would be a stretch to say these stories are universal, but they are certainly national.  Every American living in the early 1940s was affected by the events of the war--and so were those of us who came after them."

Professional actors reading from the script will play multiple characters.  The cast includes Jody Hovland, Sean DeMers, Jack Sharkey and Katherine Slaven. Drew Bielinski will complete the show with lighting and projection design.

About the Playwrights

Ron Clark and Rick Williams were childhood classmates in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  Both eventually migrated to Iowa City where they have lived for more than 30 years. Family obligations and work commitments limited their time together, however about a year ago Williams and Clark were inspired to collaborate on "A Grateful Nation".

Writing for theater is nothing new for Clark.  He and his wife, Jody Hovland are two of the co-founders of Riverside Theatre.  Ron has authored three previous plays, including two about small town Iowa life.

Rick Williams is a newcomer to playwriting but is a historian with a journalism background, working as a newspaper reporter before becoming an ACT test editor, where he spent 29 years before retiring.

Enrollment Continues Through Dec. 5; Comments Accepted Until Dec. 15

GRAPEVINE, Texas, Oct. 29, 2014 - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, speaking at the National Milk Producers Federation annual meeting, today announced extended deadlines for the dairy Margin Protection Program. Farmers now have until Dec. 5, 2014, to enroll in the voluntary program, established by the 2014 Farm Bill. The program provides financial assistance to participating farmers when the margin - the difference between the price of milk and feed costs - falls below the coverage level selected by the farmer.

"We want dairy producers to have enough time to make thoughtful and well-studied choices," said Vilsack. "Markets change and the Margin Protection Program can help protect dairy producers from those changes."

Vilsack encouraged producers to use the online Web resource at www.fsa.usda.gov/mpptool to calculate the best levels of coverage for their dairy operation. "Historical scenarios also can be explored to see how the Margin Protection Program would function should poor market conditions occur again in the future," said Vilsack. The secure website can be accessed via computer, smartphone or tablet.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) also extended the opportunity for public comments on both the Margin Protection Program and the Dairy Product Donation Program until Dec. 15, 2014.

"USDA is committed to creating strong opportunities for the next generation of farmers and ranchers. When dairy producers bring new family members into the business, these changes could affect safety net coverage," said Vilsack. "If our current rules hinder intergenerational changes or if improvements are needed in these programs, then we want to hear from dairy producers."

Comments can be submitted to USDA via the regulations.gov website at http://go.usa.gov/GJSA.

Today's announcement was made possible through the 2014 Farm Bill, which builds on historic economic gains in rural America over the past five years, while achieving meaningful reform and billions of dollars in savings for the taxpayer. Since enactment, USDA has made significant progress to implement each provision of this critical legislation, including providing disaster relief to farmers and ranchers; strengthening risk management tools; expanding access to rural credit; funding critical research; establishing innovative public-private conservation partnerships; developing new markets for rural-made products; and investing in infrastructure, housing and community facilities to help improve quality of life in rural America. Major Expansion Project to Create Thousands of Jobs in Central Illinois

TUSCOLA - Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by company officials to announce that Cronus Fertilizers, a much-anticipated $1.4 billion fertilizer plant, will be built in Tuscola. Following a search process that included 76 sites in nine states, Cronus has chosen Illinois to expand their business with a new facility that will create approximately 2,000 construction jobs and 175 permanent jobs.

The Cronus fertilizer plant is one of the largest private investments in central Illinois since 1988, when Mitsubishi Motors North America opened its auto factory in Normal. Governor Quinn aggressively worked to secure this investment, personally meeting with the company and mobilizing his cabinet to bring the project to Illinois. Today's announcement is part of his agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"We are proud to partner with Cronus Fertilizers as they bring their thriving and innovative business to Tuscola, Illinois," Governor Quinn said. "Building this new plant here in the heartland will be a big boost for our central Illinois economy, provide a locally made product for our farm industry and create thousands of good-paying jobs. With Illinois now leading the Midwest in job creation, companies like Cronus are helping us keep the momentum going."

"After an exhaustive process, we are thrilled to bring this fertilizer plant to Illinois and look forward to working with the Tuscola community to create high-quality fertilizers for Midwestern farmers," said Erzin Atac, CEO of Cronus Chemicals LLC, which is building the plant. "Cronus Fertilizers is grateful for all the support we have received from Governor Quinn, Speaker Madigan, Representative Brown, Senator Rose, Tuscola Economic Development and numerous state and local officials who helped make this project a reality."

Illinois' central location, world-class transportation infrastructure, proximity to natural gas pipelines and a highly trained and motivated work force were key factors in Cronus' decision to locate near Tuscola.

The new Cronus fertilizer plant will be built on a 235-acre site at 765 E. U.S. Highway 36, just west of Tuscola and near Interstate 57. Production in Tuscola will help displace fertilizer products that are currently imported for the U.S. agricultural market.

The plant will produce non-flammable nitrogen-based products, specifically urea and ammonia fertilizers and diesel exhaust fluid, using natural gas as a feedstock. State-of-the-art technology will be used to minimize emissions, maximize safety and meet Illinois' stringent environmental standards.

Construction of the new plant is expected to last 33 months and support approximately 2,000 union jobs. The Illinois EPA has determined that the application for the fertilizer plant meets all applicable requirements, and has issued a construction permit to Cronus.

"Today marks the culmination of years of effort by state and local officials to put this excellent industrial site into productive use," Tuscola Mayor Daniel Kleiss said.  "We are so thankful that Cronus Chemicals has selected the Douglas County site near Tuscola, and we look forward to the tremendous positive impacts that Cronus will have on the local economy, labor market, agricultural market and tax base. Tuscola is proud to be their new home."

"The state's investment here is substantial, but it leverages one of the largest private developments ever in central Illinois," DCEO Director Adam Pollet said. "The Quinn Administration has worked with all the state's available tools to make sure this project takes place here. The plant's product will help our farmers while construction workers and nearby residents will have a new source of quality jobs."

Cronus Fertilizers will be built on a CSX Select Site, a CSX Corporation program that identifies and certifies sites that are ready for development along CSX's rail network.  CSX Select Sites meet a rigorous list of criteria, including infrastructure and utility availability, environmental reviews, appropriate zoning and entitlement, air quality permitting, rail serviceability, proximity to highways or interstates, and other attributes.

The company's $1.4 billion investment will be supported by a targeted state incentive package that includes an estimated $35 million in tax exemptions for the Tuscola site. The benefit was authorized by legislation that passed the Illinois General Assembly last spring on a bipartisan vote and was signed by Governor Quinn. The exemptions for Cronus are contingent on the plant's successful completion and operation, as well as the company meeting its targets for hiring and capital expenditures.

The project also will receive $12.3 million for road improvements through the Illinois Department of Transportation, an estimated $3.9 million in credits against the company's state income tax liability over 10 years, a $1 million grant for public infrastructure and job training grant of $78,500. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will administer the tax credits and grants.

Cronus Fertilizers is a project of Cronus Chemicals LLC, a company led by industry veterans with decades of experience in the development, manufacturing and marketing of fertilizer products. The Cronus team has successfully developed and operated fertilizer plants and other projects both in the U.S. and internationally.

San Diego, CA - October 23, 2014 - Every team has goals, every player has goals, every Coach knows that goals result in better performance. Whether those goals are physical or academic, everyone knows proper goal setting works.  Unfortunately, the ability to monitor and track goal progress is not as easy as it would seem.  Coaches can teach their players to set goals, but usually the best result is a goal sheet taped to the inside of a gym locker.  How often the goals are read is hard to determine and making sure they were written down correctly isn't always easy.  My Goal Mine, a web based service and fully functional application, provides student athletes, teams, and their coaches, a platform to track and accomplish all of their goals.

My Goal Mine's web based platform and App allows student athletes to set SMART goals, allows coaches to track their goal progress, and even allows coaches to assign goals. By assigning goals, a coach can help a player in an area that needs attention, such as having a player read for two hours a day, or see a tutor for a specific subject they might be having trouble with.,  The coach can then track the progress.  Every day the player opens their email, or the My Goal Mine APP to read their goals, the player gets a point. The teams coach has a dashboard showing how many goals each player has and how many points they have accrued.   Student Athletes can even share their goal achievement or show their peers what goals they are trying to obtain by posting on Social Media sites such as Facebook.
The Goal Setting Platform provides businesses such as popular local Eateries, local Real Estate Agents, Sporting Goods Shops, or other SMBs the ability to sponsor the high school or college.  The sponsorship is affordable and provides sponsors the ability to reach the local student athletes by having their logo and hyperlink displayed on each players' goal setting page.   Every day the student athletes read their goals, the local SMB gets an impression.  Moreover, when a student athlete wants to share goal achievement--or goals they are trying to accomplish--on a Social Media platform such as Facebook, the SMB is recognized as the schools sponsor.  This high exposure, affordable sponsorship will allow every student athlete and coach across the nation to have a web/APP based goal setting program.  The school wins, the players win, and the local SMB wins. It is truly a win/win/win situation.

In the first beta test of the My Goal Mine App student athletes reported a raise in GPA by a full .6; meaning if a student was getting a 2.0, it jumped to a 2.6 by the end of the season.  The power of goal setting is the surest way to elevate performance. Every business owner knows the importance of goals; and fortunately with todays' technology, local business owners can help every player across the nation learn and reap the benefits of proper goal setting.

To help your local student athletes please visit: www.my-goalmine.com.

Verizon HopeLine cell phone drive helps domestic violence survivors

CHICAGO – Oct. 28, 2014. Lt. Governor Sheila Simon brought her office's fourth annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month cell phone drive to a successful conclusion with the presentation of two $5,000 donations from Verizon's HopeLine program to the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois and Chicago-based Connections for Abused Women and their Children.

"Organizations like these help survivors to protect their families and themselves as they get back on their feet after abusive relationships," Simon said. "Each year, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is about educating ourselves about domestic violence. I hope this has called some attention to the issue, and I know that the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois, and Connections for Abused Women and their Children will use this money to help those who most need it."

Collected phones will be donated to Verizon's HopeLine program. Phones will be refurbished and sold, with the proceeds going to support local domestic violence shelters and programs. The program also provides domestic violence agencies with wireless phones and airtime for use by domestic violence victims. If a phone can't be refurbished, it will be recycled in an environmentally sound way.

"Verizon is dedicated to supporting organizations like Connections and the Violence Prevention Center," said Mike McMahon, director of business sales, Verizon Wireless. "We applaud their important contribution to our community to help victims and raise awareness of the pervasive problem of domestic violence."

Based in Belleville, the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois provides shelter and other services to domestic violence survivors in St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph Counties. The donation will be used to support the services provided by the Center's legal advocacy program, said Lisa Chilton, Director of Legal Advocacy for the Violence Prevention Center.

"The Violence Prevention Center is grateful to Verizon for this financial gift because of how it will help eliminate the barriers a domestic violence survivor faces when trying to get to safety," Chilton said. "We know lack of resources and legal assistance become barriers to safety. These additional resources will allow victims to get to safety and for the community to focus on the more important question:  "How can we stop this abuser from abusing?"

Half of the proceeds from the drive will also go toward Connections for Abused Women and Children (CAWC). Based in Chicago, the group provides domestic violence relief services to families in need. CAWC Executive Director Stephanie Love-Patterson said the cell phone drive is important and timely.

"On behalf of the board of directors and staff of Connections for Abused Women and their Children, we appreciate the generous gift from Verizon," Love-Patterson said. "These funds will help CAWC to continue to provide life-saving services and work toward our mission of ending domestic violence. We greatly value community partners like you!"

As Lt. Governor, Simon's office has collected more than 4,000 used cell phones to help benefit survivors of domestic violence. Simon's office also launched the Virtual Legal Clinic, a program aimed at providing free, confidential legal consultation to domestic violence survivors in rural and underserved counties. The program, which will continue under the purview of the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, connects survivors to lawyers with expertise in family law via internet technology.
