Jane Rubietta, nationaly acclaimed author and speaker, will lead a women's retreat from 9-3:00 on November 16th at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church. The theme for the retreat is: Transitions

Audiences describe her speaking as "mesmerizing, deeply spiritual, funny, vulnerable, dramatic, and personal."  Jane's passion is to see people's hearts restored by the knowledge of the truth: that God absolutely delights in them, that God is crazy about them, that God would give everything on Earth to make sure they know they are loved.

A continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided at the retreat.  The cost is $25 per person; registration is due by Nov. 7.  A few scholarships are available.  Childcare will be available, but must be requested at registration.

On the same day, Jane's husband, Rev. Rich Rubietta will lead a music camp for children grades 2-6 from 9-Noon. Rich has been described as a "musician-ary."  He has led children's music workshops for churches as well as public and parochial skills.  Children attending the camp will be treated to a wide variety of fun musical experiences.

The cost of the music camp is $5 per child; a few scholarships are available.  Registration is limited to 50 children so register early!

To registration information for either event, call Karen at 762-0619.

(Moline) - Mark Zimmerman of Zimmerman Honda presented a check for $2,500 to the Davenport North High School Athletic Department as this year's winner of the Zimmerman Honda Spirit Award.  Because area schools are excited about football and their local teams, the Spirit Award lets students show school spirit!

A contest where students and friends were encouraged to vote for their school was held online through Facebook in conjunction with WQAD TV.com.  The school with the most votes becomes the winner.

Dave Shovlain, athletic director at Davenport North High School, was on location at Zimmerman Honda to receive the check along with several senior students.  "We're so proud of our kids and they really deserve this for all their efforts."

Zimmerman is currently celebrating their first year at their new location 70th Street and John Deere Road in Moline.  Plus this year is a celebration for Zimmerman Honda being a Honda dealer for 40 years.

On Tuesday October 15th, the Quad City Federation of Labor and our affiliated unions will be gathering at the Rock Island County Building, 1504 - 3rd Ave, 3rd Floor, Rock Island, IL at 5:15 to showcase our support of the Hope Creek Care Center and the union members of AFSCME 2371. WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa is advising Iowans to call or email his offices for a faster response than via postal mail to Washington during the partial government shutdown.  Senate postal operations are largely closed, so Grassley's office in Washington is not getting postal mail deliveries.

"I want Iowans to know their postal mail isn't being delivered to my Washington office right now," Grassley said.  "The lack of delivery will delay the response they receive.  If they need help with an urgent issue, they should call any of my offices in Iowa or Washington or send a message through grassley.senate.gov."

Grassley's Iowa offices are receiving postal mail during the partial government shutdown, in contrast to the Washington office, though it is not possible for Grassley to respond to Iowans by postal mail during the shutdown.   Staff is answering the phones for all six Iowa offices and the Washington office, with constituent services specialists taking calls from Iowans who need help with a problem involving a federal agency.  Some of Grassley's staff is furloughed on a rotating basis in accordance with legal obligations but enough staff is working to receive comments from Iowans, help constituents, meet with Iowans visiting the nation's capital, and help fulfill Grassley's legislative and oversight duties.

Grassley's office phone numbers are available here.  The contact form on grassley.senate.gov is available here.
