SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS (June 1, 2023) — Following the General Assembly’s adjournment, the Illinois AFL-CIO released the following statement:

“Working Illinoisans celebrated numerous victories this legislative session, building on recent successes that have included the Workers’ Rights Amendment, Paid Leave for All, higher minimum wages, fairer workers compensation laws, and a robust state construction program.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 31, 2023) — Applications for the Students First Education Savings Account (ESA) program opened at 8AM — prompting thousands of applications from Iowa families.

“Iowa changed the face of education, funding students instead of systems. Giving parents the power to determine the best education for their children wasn’t just a slogan, it was a promise. Today, I’m proud to say we delivered,” said Gov Reynolds.

FAYETTE, IOWA (May 31, 2023) — Fayette campus students will soon benefit from a $4,000 grant awarded by Viafield to Upper Iowa University (UIU). The funds will be used to purchased CPR mannequins and AED machines for the Exercise Science Program at UIU.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI (May 31, 2023) — Karsyn Kuffler of Moline, Illinois, has been named to the Southeast Missouri State University President's List for academic achievement during the spring 2023 semester.

Students named to the list earned at least a 4.0 grade-point average and completed at least twelve hours of standard graded credit in a semester.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 31, 2023) — Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Economic Development Authority announced a $5 million investment in food banks and food-pantry networks to help more Iowans in need get access to fresh, nutritious food.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (May 31, 2023) — The 2023 David R Collins Writers’ Conference will hold a book fair for local/regional authors, publishers, booksellers, and more. The event will be held Saturday, June 24, 10AM-4PM, Gävle Hall (in the Gerber Center for Student Life, Augustana College, 3435 9 ½ Ave, Rock Island, Illinois). A conference-registration fee not required to participate in the books fair. Tables for participants are $10, or two for $20.

Students named to the list earned at least a 3.75 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, completed at least twelve hours of standard graded credit, achieved no grade below a B, and received no failing grades in enrolled, credit/no credit, or pass/fail courses.
