Governor Quinn Joins President Obama in support of Bold Economic Growth Agenda

CHICAGO - February 15, 2013. Governor Pat Quinn today joined President Obama at Hyde Park Academy to discuss the need to strengthen the middle class and prevent gun violence. The president laid out a bold agenda during his State of the Union address to drive job creation and economic growth, close the skills gap, raise the federal minimum wage and protect public safety. Governor Quinn laid out many proposals last week during his State of the State address consistent with the President's agenda.

"I strongly support the president's mission to strengthen the middle class and protect the people of our state and country," Governor Quinn said. "We must all be committed to driving economic growth in Illinois and making sure that gun violence does not threaten our children's bright futures. I look forward to working together across party lines in the coming months to find common-sense, common ground to make Illinois more prosperous."

Last week in his State of the State address, Governor Quinn laid out an ambitious agenda to put people back to work and strengthen the Illinois economy. He announced a partnership between the state, the University of Illinois and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications to create the Illinois Manufacturing Lab, which will help better equip Illinois' workforce and make manufacturers in our state more competitive. The governor also proposed raising the minimum wage in Illinois to, at least, $10 an hour over the next four years to reduce poverty and increase local consumer spending. He also called for continued investment in transportation and public works, to create jobs and pave the way for more economic growth.

In addition, the governor addressed the need to end gun violence in Illinois by calling for a ban on the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, as well as mental health reporting and common-sense public safety legislation that includes stronger background checks and new requirements to report lost and stolen guns. Governor Quinn also called for marriage equality to make Illinois a more welcoming place for all people. Yesterday, marriage equality legislation passed the Illinois Senate.

Cutting Congress' Pay

At a time when our economy continues to struggle and we face an unsustainable debt, it is more important than ever to hold Washington accountable.  Yet while far too many Iowa families are struggling like mine did when I was growing up, Members of Congress have not seen a pay cut since the Great Depression.  This is simply unacceptable.

That is why I authored the Congressional Halt in Pay Increases (CHIP IN) and Cut Congressional Pay Act.  This initiative would cut Members of Congress' pay by 10 percent.  It would also repeal the automatic pay increases that currently take place unless Congress votes to stop them.  In these difficult times, it is unacceptable that Members of Congress can automatically receive a pay raise while Iowans continue to struggle and Washington is gridlocked. 

I have long advocated for reforms to force Congress to get its work done and to hold Washington accountable.  That is why I'm fighting to end the pay system that has prevented any cut in Congressional pay since 1933 - eight decades ago. 

I will always fight for Iowans and will continue to work to create jobs, get the economy moving, and reduce the deficit.  There is no better place to start than with Members of Congress' own pocketbooks.

Daddy Daughter Dance

This is a fantastic time for Dad's to spend with their daughter's.  It is a wonderful event to have some quality time spent having fun, dressing up, and dancing.  Couples will be treated to a dinner buffet, crafts, dancing, and a chance to win prizes.  A professional photographer will be available to take couple's photos.  Dads can be uncles, grandpas, step-fathers.  Spend some time together, we clean up the mess and there is no school on Monday following the dance so you can sleep in! The dance will take place on Sunday, February 24 from 5:30-8pm in the Mississippi River Hall, Davenport River Center.

Loebsack: Congress is Once Again Skipping Town at Expense of Iowans

House Republicans vote to go on nine day recess despite threat of sequester

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dave Loebsack today expressed dismay that House leadership will allow Congress to go into recess for nine days with the threat of across the board, arbitrary cuts known as sequestration set to begin on March 1st.  This recess leaves only four legislative days to try and find a way to stop these devastating cuts.  Loebsack continues to express his opposition to letting the automatic, across the board spending cuts contained in sequestration take effect.

"It is unconscionable that Congress is taking an undeserved week-long recess when the deadline to avert sequestration is only 14 days away.  I have called on Congressional leadership for months to get to work on finding a solution to stop these arbitrary, across the board cuts," wrote Loebsack in a letter to Congressional leaders. "There is no reason for Congress to not remain in Washington and work toward a solution.  Iowans expect Congress to work on their behalf, not skip town instead of making the tough decisions needed to avert the real life consequences sequestration will have on the economy, Iowans, and people across the country.  I urge you to keep Congress in session and get to work."

Invasive Plant Management Plan Available for Public Comment

WEST BRANCH, IOWA– The National Park Service made available a draft Invasive Plant Management Plan and Environmental Assessment for public review. The plan addresses issues associated with vegetation management within the boundaries of 15 national parks in the Midwest, including Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa. Particular attention was placed on eradication, control, and containment of invasive plants. The public is encouraged to review the plan and offer comments on the Planning, Environment and Public Comment website, http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=31771 by March 14, 2013.  Comments may also be mailed to:

Three alternatives suggest differing strategies for exotic plant management. Scoping and early consultation provided a number of issues and concerns to be considered in an EA.
Craig Young, the Invasive Plant Management Team coordinator said, "Our Interdisciplinary Team, consisting of park managers and National Park Service subject matter experts, analyzed the potential for impacts on park resources and the human environment and drafted an Environmental Assessment detailing the impacts of management action."
As part of the process, the National Park Service wants to ensure that it has considered all the concerns held by members of the public.
Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 off I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Loebsack, Jones Announce Co-Chairmanship of House Military Depot and Arsenal Caucus

Washington, D.C. - This week, Congressman Dave Loebsack (IA-2) and Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) announce their co-chairmanship of the House Military Depot, Arsenal, Ammunition Plant, and Industrial Facilities Caucus for the 113th Congress.  This bipartisan group of House members will be dedicated to policy issues that affect military industrial facilities, including aviation depots, arsenals, ammunition plants, shipyards, and energetic material production facilities. The caucus will also educate other members of Congress on matters of importance to the military depot and industrial facility community, as well as advocate for necessary changes in policy.

Congressman Loebsack represents Rock Island Arsenal and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. Rock Island Arsenal is home to the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, the Department of Defense's only multi-purpose and vertically integrated metal manufacturer.  The Arsenal is also home to critical logistics, contracting, and mobilization commands, including Army Sustainment Command, Joint Munitions Command, Army Contracting Command-Rock Island, and First Army.  The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant produces and delivers component assembly and medium and large caliber ammunition to US Joint Forces.

"I'm proud to co-chair the House Military Depot, Arsenal, Ammunition Plant, and Industrial Facilities Caucus with my friend, Congressman Jones (NC-03).  I strongly believe that arsenals such as Rock Island Arsenal, ammunition plants like the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, depots, and other organic industrial facilities are essential to our national security.  As a military parent, I'm thankful for the workforce at our organic industrial facilities that work every day to put equipment in the hands of our troops.  I look forward to continuing to partner with Congressman Jones and the Caucus membership to strongly advocate for our organic industrial facilities," said Loebsack.

Congressman Jones represents Fleet Readiness Center East (FRC East), a military depot service provider located at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station specializing in support of Marine aircraft, engines and components.  FRC East is the only source of repair within the continental United States for many jet engines and rotary wing engines, as well as turbofan vectored thrust engines.

"As a longtime member and co-chair of the House Military Depot and Industrial Facilities Caucus, I have worked hard to ensure that the industrial capacity of our military depots to regenerate equipment is at a maximum.  Military depots and other industrial facilities, like Fleet Reserve Center East, play a vital role in the health of our Armed Services and allow our fighting forces to continue their mission without delay.  I look forward to working with Congressman Loebsack (IA-02) to create a stronger, more resilient system," said Jones.

The primary excident, that which we, and the Earth are made of
in precisely given quantities of percentage, is water.

Along with molecules to monkeys, water stands out as the primary subpersonal (partial) being, as developed by God's infinitely loving
activity of compassion on us human maybe-sayers.

An original presentation by Michael Grady, who will also give a presentation
on how to activate water from a passive to more active state, which harkens
back to the pristine beginning and memory of creation ex aliquo (existence).

About the presenter :
.Michael Grady has been an Independent Scholar at the Institute since 2004. He lives in Davenport with his wife Lina Grady, and three teenage girls. He has been an export consultant for American food products exporting American wild caught fish to Asia and Eastern Europe. Mike has spent some time in Denmark, and is a recent grandfather to Ingrid, 8 months old living in Copenhagn with his son Christian Norgaard Larsen and Stina.
Currently, Mike is in North Dakota where he has established a work residency and staffing company to supply the staffing demand for the Bracken oil fields.
His wife , Lina is an expert and a consultant in Traditional Feng Shui.

The City of Moline and the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Rock Island County to adopt an Intergovernmental and Boundary Agreement to focus on future economic development activities

MOLINE - The City of Moline Committee of the Whole and the Quad City International Airport Authority

Board of Commissioners will consider a new Intergovernmental and Boundary Agreement at their

respective meetings on Tuesday, February 19th. The City of Moline and the Metropolitan Airport

Authority (Airport) recognize the mutual benefit of economic development around the Airport and south

of the Airport property. In addition to the Hampton Inn and other businesses currently located on Airport

property, development of a Holiday Inn Express has been proposed and is in negotiation.

The City and the Airport have had various agreements in effect over the past 15 years pertaining to

development, utilities and annexation. Included in said agreements is a 1998 Memorandum of

Understanding that transferred the Airport's ownership of its entire water and sewer system to the City

and allowed the Airport and its tenants to pay in-City rates for water and sewer service, and a 2004

annexation agreement that permitted a certain portion of the Airport property to be annexed to allow for

the City's growth south of the Airport. The City and the Airport have determined that these previous

agreements form the foundation of a strong relationship and will be strengthened and clarified by this

agreement and serve to foster further development on or near Airport property. This Agreement

addresses some unresolved issues as to development on the property, to establish a boundary around the

Airport to ensure that the Airport remains autonomous and unincorporated, to provide for cooperation in

continuing development of the southwest corner of the Airport property, and to continue cooperation

between the City and the Airport in the future. This Agreement includes provisions for the Airport's

voluntary annexation of land containing the current Hampton Inn and the land on which the proposed

Holiday Inn Express is to be located, as well as a cost-sharing arrangement between the City and Rock

Island County for the hotel-motel tax revenues. The Agreement will also provide a framework for further

expansion of the Airport Industrial Park for non-aeronautical commercial and industrial uses.

"This agreement between the City and the Airport Authority, subject to formal approval of each governing

body, exemplifies the strong working relationship that has existed for many years, and solidifies this bond

for future economic development opportunities for many years to come," said Lew Steinbrecher, City

Administrator for the City of Moline and Bruce Carter, Director of Aviation for the Quad City International

Airport.
