Iowa-based film production compnay Backrow Studios releases trailer, poster art, and website for feature film 'The Formula.'

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Three Iowa City-based filmmakers are bringing Hollywood star power to their newest independent film project. "The Formula," starring Brandon Baker, Reginald VelJohnson and Sasha Jackson, has wrapped principal photography and is currently in post-production with a hopeful Iowa premiere of December '12 - January '13. Backrow Studios will be releasing the company's new website and trailer for "The Formula" on Tuesday, September 18th.

Backrow Studios' production team Ravi Patel, Tim Nash, and Joe Clarke bring the story of two engineers who invent a mathematical formula for seducing women with "The Formula." The film stars Brandon Baker, best known for his work in Disney movies such as "Johnny Tsunami," "The Jungle Book," "Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board," as well as the NBC sitcom "One World." Also starring in the film is Reginald VelJohnson, a veteran actor best known for his roles in the classic action picture, "Die Hard," and as Carl Winslow in the long running family sitcom, "Family Matters." Rounding out the cast is Sasha Jackson, who played the lead role of "Dana" in 2011's "Blue Crush: Wild Coast." She also plays the recurring character of "Kylie" on the popular TV series, "One Tree Hill."

"The Formula" is the story of Quinn (Baker) and Graham (Schminke), two engineering students who discover a mathematical formula to pick up women with ease. Quinn is a hopeless romantic who falls head over heels for a young student teacher. Graham is a chauvinistic womanizer who thinks the key to finding the woman of his dreams is by wooing as many as possible. As "The Formula" follows Quinn and Graham from one date to the next, they discover that there is no shortcut to finding true love.

"The Formula" is the third film produced by Backrow Studios, LLC. Its first feature length film "Kung Fu Graffiti" signed a contract for sales and distribution with Los Angeles -based production house Entertainment 7. The company's second feature "The Wedge" is hitting the film festival circuit, and landed three awards including Best Professional Feature at the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Makers Festival on April '12. Two Davenport Men Sentenced After Federal Drug Conspiracy Convictions

DAVENPORT, IA - On September 14, 2012, David Kent Minor, age 38, and Kadar Ameer Wall, age 37, both from Davenport, Iowa were sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Minor was sentenced to 140 months imprisonment and ordered to serve five years supervised release. Wall was sentenced to 96 months imprisonment and ordered to serve five years supervised release. Both were also ordered to pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund. Three other co-defendants, Charles Bateman,
Charles Harrington, Roscoe Lee, have pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

From approximately October 2007 until June 2011, Alon Shorter, Dale Shorter, Roscoe Lee, Charles Bateman, Charles Harrington, David Minor and Kadar Wall conspired to distribute in excess of 2.8 kilograms of cocaine base. This investigation included two controlled purchases of crack cocaine directly from co-defendant, Dale Shorter. The investigation also included five controlled purchases of crack from Harrington and Bateman, who distributed crack cocaine provided by Dale and Alon Shorter. Minor and Wall also agreed to distribute crack cocaine for Dale and Alon Shorter at multiple locations in Davenport, including an apartment on Heatherton Drive.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Davenport, Iowa, Police Department. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

Branstad, Reynolds announce video contest in conjunction with Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit

(DES MOINES) - Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds at their weekly news conference today that they are inviting all Iowa middle schools and high schools to submit a video about what their school is doing to prevent bullying and what more might be done, prior to the Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit, which will be held Nov. 27 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.

They noted that each video should reflect the theme of "Preventing Bullying in Your School and Beyond." The audience for the video will include students, teachers, school administrators, parents and community leaders.

Branstad says students should use this as an opportunity to tell your school's story about how bullying is being stopped, what more might be done, and how to better engage the community as a whole in bullying prevention efforts.

The top vote-getter will receive a $500 prize to be used for bullying prevention efforts at their school, along with a visit by the governor and lieutenant governor for an all-school assembly. The video contest winner will be announced at the Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit.

Branstad, Reynolds reveal further details and speakers for the Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit

(DES MOINES) - Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds at their weekly news conference today revealed further details of the Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit this fall, including the line-up of speakers and a web site at which to register.

Military Retiree Appreciation Day Oct. 27 at Rock Island Arsenal

FORT McCOY, Wis. - A Retiree Appreciation Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. Retirees from all branches of the armed forces and their family members are eligible to attend. The event begins at 7 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. at the Post Restaurant, building 60.

Retiree Appreciation Day is an opportunity for all armed forces retirees, spouses, widows, and/or guests to receive updated information about retiree entitlement programs.

Photo identification is required for all personnel to access the installation.

Governor Quinn Announces Record High of Illinois Exports to Mexico

Calls Mexican Independence Day a time to honor a century of friendship, trade

CHICAGO, IL - September 15, 2012.  On the eve of Mexican Independence Day, Governor Pat Quinn today announced that Illinois exports to Mexico in the first half of 2012 topped $3 billion - a 13.7 percent increase over the previous year and a new record high. The state's robust trading relationship with Mexico has been enhanced by the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment in Mexico City, as well as a century-long tradition of friendship and trade between Illinois and Mexico. Illinois exports overall are at the highest level in a decade and today's announcement is the latest step towards Governor Quinn's goal of doubling Illinois exports by 2015.

"Illinois is home to world-class goods and services, and we should utilize all of our assets to get a competitive edge in global markets," Governor Quinn said. "One of our most valuable resources is a century-long tradition of friendship and trade with Mexico, which we honor on days such as Mexican Independence Day."

Mexico has played a key role in Illinois' rise in exports, with 20 percent growth in 2010 and 34 percent growth in 2011. In his push to increase trade, the Governor established a high-level Export Advisory Council comprised of the State's top CEOs and private sector leaders to craft strategies for boosting exports, while serving as global ambassadors for the State.

Governor Quinn - who marched in the Mexican Independence Day Parade in Chicago's La Villita last week - noted that Mexican immigration to Chicago began in earnest exactly 100 years ago. Illinois has enjoyed a strong relationship with places such as Michoacán, Monterrey and Mexico City, and these ties are translating into healthy trading opportunities.

The Illinois Office of Trade and Investment - located on Mexico City's bustling Paseo de La Reforma - has been providing small and medium-sized Illinois businesses with expertise in all phases of export development as well as partner contacts in Mexico. The Office provides critical support to any Illinois business wanting to enter the Mexican market. In 2011, Mexico accounted for nearly 9 percent of Illinois' total export portfolio with $5.7 billion in exports, and - in the post-NAFTA era - ranks second only to Canada as a trading partner.  Exported goods to Mexico include machinery, agriculture products, electronics and chemicals.

The Mexican-origin population living and working in Illinois (1.6 million persons, or 12.5% of the State's population, according to the 2010 Census) is also an important component in the commercial, investment, social and cultural relationship that generates economic benefits to both Illinois and Mexico. Further, some Illinois municipalities have established "sister city" relationships in Mexico as well: Naperville with Pátzcuaro, Michoacán; Highland Park with Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco; Springfield with San Pedro de Las Colonias, Coahuila; Kankakee with Guanajuato, and Chicago with Mexico City.
