Tis the season for giving! Please take a moment during an evening in the coming month of December to enjoy our gift to you and the entire Quad City community. On December 1st, continuing through December 24, we will be lighting one window panel each day as an illuminated Advent Calendar to mark the holiday season. The lighted windows will grow across the 4th Floor windows from west to east, and then across the 2nd Floor windows in the same fashion. The panels will glow from approximately 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. daily, and are best admired approaching from the Centennial Bridge. The designs were created by 7th graders at the Creative Arts Academy of the Davenport Community School District under our supervision. This special project is combined with our special holiday exhibit in the 1st Floor Gallery. "The Amazing Advent Adventure" features 47 different Advent calendars to enjoy and admire, with emphasis on their origin in Germany. (Don't forget to pick up a genuine German Advent calendar in the gift shop, with pictures or chocolate backing to continue the fun at home!)
Special thanks to the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chicago, the Genesis Foundation and an anonymous benefactor for funding this unique holiday event. We were also honored to have corporate support from Edwards Creative in Milan to complete the project.
Thanks, too, to Arlene Considine for contributing her antique "twin Hausbarn" display which enriches the interior gallery with its detailed craftsmanship and accompanying figures. Thank you to Hedy Hustedde for sharing her beautiful Advent Calendar collection for display.
Tis the season for receiving, as well! As an early Christmas present on November 25, we were delighted to receive our new building sign on the south facade, which replaces a sign grown dingy and decrepit. The new sign features an aluminum base and beveled gold lettering, and was crafted by Young Art and Design. Our thanks to the Downtown Davenport Partnership for their generous support in paying for half the cost of this project.
We wish you all a peaceful and joyful Christmas season!
