DES MOINES, IOWA (March 7, 2023) — Governor Kim Reynolds today announced her appointment of Kristen Formanek as a district associate judge in Judicial Election District 5C.

Formanek, of Ankeny, Iowa, currently serves as an Assistant Polk County Attorney and has served as an Assistant Story County Attorney. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS (March 7, 2023) — The Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA), which represents more than 1,800 veterinarians across the state, is opposing a bill being considered by the state House of Representatives to ban a veterinary surgical procedure that is sometimes recommended by veterinarians to protect a cat’s health and well-being.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 7, 2023) — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird and Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers have taken another step to challenge the EPA’s illegally-delayed decision regarding the sale of year-round E15 gasoline. They sent an intent-to-sue letter to the EPA demanding that the EPA change the proposed rule to allow for E15 sales this summer.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 6, 2023) — Five Iowa high-school seniors received a 2023 Iowa Bankers Association Student Athlete Achievement Award during the Iowa High School Girls Basketball State Tournament on March 3-4 in Des Moines. One student from each class was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the IBA to the college of her choice.

COAL VALLEY, ILLLINOIS (March 7, 2023) — A group of Niabi Zoo animals, ranging from Amur Leopards to Fennec foxes, have received the first and second rounds of the Veterinary COVID Vaccine, produced and donated by the pharmaceutical company Zoetis.

DUBUQUE, IOWA (March 6, 2023) — A panel discussion in connection with the traveling exhibit “Suspended: Systemic Oppression in Our Schools” will be held at 6:30PM, Friday, March 10, 2023, in Room 264, Peter and Susan Smith Welcome Center on the University of Dubuque campus. The exhibit will be open at 6PM for people to view the exhibit ahead of the panel discussion.

The panel discussion and exhibit are free and open to the public.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 6, 2023) — Scott County Auditor Kerri Tompkins wants voters in local school districts to be aware of Special Elections on March 7. “Voters in Davenport, Bettendorf, Durant and Calamus-Wheatland School Districts have public measures on the ballot,” said Tompkins. Voting Centers will be open on March 7, 7AM-8PM.
