DES MOINES, IOWA (August 24, 2026) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.2 percent in July, equal to the rate in May and June and down from a jobless rate of 3.5 percent one year ago. Meanwhile, the US unemployment rate fell to 4.1 percent in July.

The total number of unemployed Iowans decreased to 54,700 in July from 55,300 in June.

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (August 24, 2026) — A student in Des Moines University (DMU) Medicine and Health Sciences' Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program has been awarded a $10,000 Caring Hearts Scholarship from the CVS Health Foundation.

Bryn Miller was selected for her academic achievements, service activities and dedication to providing care to others.

DUBUQUE, IOWA (August 24, 2026) — The University of Dubuque has received official approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to offer a Master of Arts in industrial and organizational psychology. Launching this fall, the program will prepare students for professional service, leadership, and transformation in the workplace through the study of hiring and selection, training, performance, motivation, work design, organizational development, and consumer behavior.

The incoming class includes 678 first-year students, 82 transfer students, and a total of five non-degree and exchange students, with 25 languages represented and a range of experiences and perspectives.

Augustana received more than 8,600 applications for the incoming class.
