WASHINGTON DC (January 13, 2020) — The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is launching FixUS, a new project to better understand and address the political, economic, and cultural root causes of our nation’s growing divisions.

DES MOINES — Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has appointed Jennifer Easler as consumer advocate for regulated utility issues.  

Easler replaces Mark Schuling, who retired January 10. Schuling had served as consumer advocate since January 2011.  

LENEXA, KANSAS (January 13, 2020) — An Iowa City, Iowa, company that operates a limestone quarry has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $33,500 to settle alleged violations of the federal Clean Water Act. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified the alleged violations when it conducted an inspection at the company’s quarry in April 2019.

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 13, 2020) — Governor Kim Reynolds encourages employers, recruiters, and human-resource managers to attend the Employer and Reentry Roundtable on January 29 at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Beginning Saturday, the Guild’s 41st juried exhibition will be installed in the Figge Art Museum’s fourth-floor gallery.

AMES, IOWA (January 13, 2020) — More than 2,200 graduates received degrees from Iowa State University. Commencement ceremonies were held December 20 (graduate) and 21 (undergraduate).

Jose Rosa, professor of marketing and John and Deborah Ganoe faculty fellow in the Ivy College of Business, spoke at the graduate ceremony. Alumnus Daniel Houston, chairman, president and CEO of Des Moines-based Principal Financial Group, gave the undergraduate address.
