Continuing last year's exciting twist on the organization's annual Father's Day activity Ride the River, Davenport's River Action will again host hours of outdoor fun in Ride the Island, a June 21 opportunity for cyclists to ride the roads and trails on the Rock Island Arsenal while exploring its rich history and visiting iconic landmarks.
In this fun-filled day of live music and activities for all ages, a History Trail will also hold all the answers to the History Competition with prizes for winners with all the answers. As participants explore the rich history of the Rock Island Arsenal, they can tour Quarters One, the second-largest federal residence after the White House, sign the Declaration of Independence, register to vote at Rock Island County and Scott county voter registration booths, take a photo with USA founders, participate in guided Paul Revere Rides, tour the Davenport House, the Rock Island Arsenal Museum, Golf Shop, and more along the route. Don’t miss Memorial Park where riders can stop at Wright Cycle bike repair, can play games, and relax to the music of the band Totes McGotes. A manned grill will be on site to provide the traditional Father’s Day cookout.
This year, the Ride the Island headquarters tent will be at the Modern Woodmen Parking Lot at the southwest corner of 17th Street and First Avenue in Rock Island. Riders will meet there and travel to the bike trail, then follow the trail to the Rock Island gate to enter Arsenal Island. Packet pick-up and registration will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Sunday, June 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A bike repair station by Trek will be open until noon The bike route is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, with the tent open for ride finish, History Trail prizes, and quilt raffle until 4:30 p.m. Registration is $15 for adults and $5 for ages 16 and under, with optional T-shirts also available for $15. Arsenal Island passes are not required for registrants during the event, although helmets are required for all riders on the island.
