Making its eagerly awaited July 9 through 11 return, the Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop will, in its 46th year, showcase more than 175 exhibits, displays, games, cookouts, fireworks, local and national country and rock musicians, and even a beauty contest for trucks in a celebration of America's big rigs and those who drive them.
Headlining Thursday's festivities is a 7 p.m. concert with The Schmidt Brothers, a trio of sibling musicians from Vinton, Iowa composed of Stephen Schmidt on drums and vocals, Samuel Schmidt on guitar and vocals, and Gabe Schmidt on bass and vocals. The brothers are a true variety band covering many genres such as country, pop, and specializing in '80s rock n' roll, including classics by Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Foreigner. Thursday will also boast a 5 p.m. set with the Dani Lynn Howe Band; the Super Truck Beauty Contest Antique Truck Display opening at 10 a.m.; the Iowa Pork Chop Cook-out starting at 11 a.m. (and taking place every day of the Jamboree); the Trucker Olympics from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; and a day-ending fireworks display.
On Friday, the 7 p.m. concert headliners for the Truckers Jamboree are the country musicians of Little Texas, who made their first chart entry in 1991 with "Some Guys Have All the Love" from their album First Time for Everything. Counting this song, Little Texas charted eight songs within the top 10 of Hot Country Songs, including a number one with "My Love". Friday's live-music sets begin at 5 p.m. with a performance by the area talents of Angela Meyer & the Western Stars, with additional events that day including another round of Trucker Olympics from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a 100th birthday party for the 1926 FWD at 2 p.m., and another fireworks display beginning at 9 p.m.
For the final day of the Truckers Jamboree, Saturday's 1 p.m. concert headliners are Shiny Shiny Black, the alternative, Americana, folk, indie, and rock group from Goshen, Indiana. This outfit is the project of husband-and-wife songwriters Nate and Amber Butler, whose self-described “coffeehouse rock and roll” creates space for people to feel genuinely at home. Prior to the weekend's events ending at 5 p.m., Trucker Olympics take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Antique Truck Plaque Presentation happens at 3 p.m., and the Super Truck Beauty Contest Awards will be handed out at 3:40 p.m.
