Boasting an unmistakable comedic style and stage voice that have endeared him to audiences since his breakout in 1985's hit comedy prequel Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, actor, filmmaker, and frequent voice-over artist Bobcat Goldthwait brings his standup set to Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center for two shows on March 16, his credits ranging from the Bill Murray comedy Scrooged to his long tenure as a panelist on NPR's radio-quiz show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!
Ever since Goldthwait's first appearance on The David Letterman Show at the age of 20, the 61-year-old singular talent has gone on to maintain a thriving career as a writer, director, actor, voice actor and stand-up comedian. Over the decades, he has starred in numerous HBO and Showtime specials, performed in venues all over the world, and even went on tour as an opening act for the band Nirvana. Beloved for his role as the comically anxious Zed in the Police Academy franchise, Goldthwait also went on to become a well-respected, award-winning director, his credits including television (Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Chappelle's Show, Community, Maron, Those Who Can't), feature films (including the cult classic Shakes the Clown and World's Greatest Dad starring Robin Williams, for whom Goldthwait was best man at the legend's 211 wedding), and documentaries (Call Me Lucky and Joy Ride).
In addition to being a four-time Sundance Alumni, Goldthwait's films have played internationally, including at the Deauville Film Festival and San Sebastian Film Festival. The artist has been honored with the German Independent Honorary Award at the Oldenburg Film Festival for his collective works, and Goldthwait has also directed numerous standup comedy specials for talents including Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Ron Funches, Iliza Shleshinger, Mo Willems, Gary Gulman, Hari Kondabolu, and Eugene Mirman. Additionally, he has also worked extensively as a voice actor, with roles in Capitol Critters, Hercules and Hercules: The Animated Series, and the Skylanders video game series. Goldthwait is currently working with Judd Apatow on converting his critically acclaimed documentary Call Me Lucky into a narrative feature, and also in development is an original narrative titled The Banishers with QC Entertainment. After fleeing Los Angeles, he now lives somewhere in the woods in Illinois with his girlfriend Nora Muhlenfeld, and their five cats: Anderson Coopurr, Alice Coopurr, Tina Sparkle, Bruce Wayne and Robert Smith.
