Chris Kattan at the Davenport RiverCenter -- March 12.

Thursday, March 12

Davenport RiverCenter, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Beloved for his 1996 to 2003 tenure on Saturday Night Live, where he was best-known for characters including Mango, Mr Peepers, and one of the Butabi brothers opposite Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan performs as the latest guest in the "Laugh QC" Thursday Night Comedy Series held in the Mississippi Hall of the Davenport RiverCenter, the comedian's March 12 engagement treating fans to a night (at the Roxbury) with one of SNL's longest-serving cast members.

Early in his career, Kattan was a member of several improvisational- and sketch-comedy troupes, among them Los Angeles' famed The Groundlings, for which his father was an original troupe member. Following some television work in the early 1990s, he moved to New York City to work on Saturday Night Live. Kattan's recurring characters included Mr. Peepers, Mango, Azrael Abyss, Kyle DeMarco from the DeMarco Brothers, Gay Hitler, and, most notably, one half of the Butabi Brothers with fellow SNL (and Groundlings) cast member Will Ferrell. Known for their trademark head-bobbing. Kattan and Ferrell continued the characters in the 1998 film A Night at the Roxbury.

Over the course of his SNL tenure, Kattan's celebrity impersonations included: Clay Aiken, Christiane Amanpour, Antonio Banderas, Andy Dick, Larry Fine, Bill Gates, Ben Affleck, David Gest, Elián González, Anne Heche, Julio Iglesias Jr., Steve Irwin, Chris Kirkpatrick, Ricky Martin, Al Pacino, Kid Rock, David Lee Roth, Paul Shaffer, David Spade, Kerri Strug (Kattan also appeared in "Weekend Update" with Strug as her fictional brother Kippy), Geraldo Rivera, Robert Downey Jr., Queen Elizabeth II, and Anthony Fauci. During his time on SNL, Kattan also appeared in such films as House on Haunted Hill (1999), Monkeybone (2001), Corky Romano (2001), and Undercover Brother (2002).

In August of 2009, Kattan starred in the IFC miniseries Bollywood Hero, where he portrayed himself and the difficulties he faced after a career as a comic actor, trying to attain leading man status. From 2009 to 2014, Kattan appeared in a supporting role in the sitcom The Middle as Bob, a colleague of Frankie Heck's at Mr. Ehlert's car dealership. Kattan appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, and in 2011, he made a guest appearance on the Saturday Night Live Christmas show, one of numerous subsequent returns to the series. Also, in 2019, Kattan published a memoir, Baby Don't Hurt Me: Stories and Scars from Saturday Night Live, which includes mention of the SNL accident in which the comedian broke his neck while filming a Golden Girls parody sketch, Kattan having thrown himself backward on a chair.

Chris Kattan performs in the Davenport RiverCenter's "Laugh QC" Thursday Night Comedy Series on March 12, admission to the 7:30 p.m. show starts at $26, and tickets are available by calling (800)745-3000 and visiting DavenportLive.com/the-rivercenter.
