Daniel Tosh at the Adler Theatre -- March 26.
Thursday, March 26, 7 p.m.
Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA
Lauded for hosting and creating Tosh.0 , a showcase for Internet clips and his sardonic commentary that was one of the longest-running comedy series on Comedy Central, standup comedian Daniel Tosh brings "My First Farewell Tour" to Davenport's Adler Theatre on March 26, the wildly popular funnyman also the host of the video podcast Tosh Show.
Born in Boppard, Rhineland-Palatinate, West Germany to American parents, Tosh grew up in Titusville, Florida, the son of a Presbyterian minister. After graduating from Astronaut High School in 1993, Tosh attended the University of Central Florida, graduating in December 1996 with a degree in marketing. He started touring the comedy-club circuit almost immediately after college, and appeared as one of the "New Faces" at the 1998 Just for Laughs in Montreal, his act eventually televised in 2000. Tosh's career break came in 2001 with a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and afterward, he made appearances on such programs as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and Comedy Central's Premium Blend. The comedian also hosted Tens, a local late-night comedy show in Florida, and served as a spokesman in Taco Bell commercials.
Tosh has been a regular guest on radio shows such as The Bob & Tom Show, Loveline, and Kevin and Bean. In 2003, he performed in his own 30-minute special on Comedy Central Presents, and four years later Comedy Central aired Tosh's standup special Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious. His Comedy Central show Tosh.0 premiered on June 5, 2009, based on showcasing Internet video clips. Tosh's mocking humor is described as "envelope pushing" and frequently features punchlines that are intentionally self-deprecating, racist, sexist, or homophobic, and speaking on his non-politically correct humor to Entertainment Weekly, the comedian said, "I'm not a misogynistic and racist person ... . But I do find those jokes funny, so I say them."
In November of 2023, Tosh started a podcast called Tosh Show on YouTube and Apple Podcasts. His show boasts a common podcast format, featuring guests in studio, alongside Internet clips, while Eddie, his neighbor from Tahoe who also co-created Tosh.0, works behind the camera and frequently chimes in. The first episode of Tosh Show debuted on November 14, and new episodes are released on Tuesdays.
