Touring nationally after the March release of his Netflix special Hot Cross Buns, an hour of comedy that inspired Decider to rave that "there’s nobody quite as talented, as proficient, or as funny," Dave Attell headlines an October 12 engagement at Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center, the performer/writer's credits running the gamut from appearances on Arrested Development to a voice-over stint on The Simpsons to a guest turn in this year's Emmy-winning hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Born in the New York City borough of Queens in 1965, Attell began performing open-mic nights after graduating from New York University in 1987 with a degree in communications. His first appearance on television was in 1988 on VH1's Stand-Up Spotlight, which also featured early appearances by Lewis Black, Margaret Cho, Jeff Garlin, Jay Mohr, and Wanda Sykes. In November of 1993, the comedian made his first appearance on Late Show with David Letterman, and after his segment was viewed by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, Attell was recruited to be a writer and occasional performer on SNL. Attell can be seen behind Chris Farley during the "Rudy Giuliani Inauguration" sketch, and he worked on the show throughout the 1993–94 season. In 1995, Attell was featured on two HBO specials alongside fellow up-and-comers Louis C.K. and Dave Chappelle, and that same year, he was a featured performer on the 1995 Young Comedians Special hosted by Garry Shandling. Attell was given his own 60-minute special on the channel's HBO Comedy Showcase, and followed it be being showcased in an episode of HBO Comedy Half-Hour in 1997.
Attell is perhaps best known as the host of Comedy Central's Insomniac with Dave Attell, which gave him a massive cult following, and he recently appeared in the Hulu series Life & Beth alongside Amy Schumer, Michael Rapaport, and Michael Cera. He can also be seen on Bumping Mics with Jeff Ross, currently streaming on Netflix, and HBO's Crashing with Pete Holmes. His series Dave's Old Porn ran for two seasons on Showtime, and both his stand-up series Dave Attell's Comedy Underground and his one hour special Road Work were featured on Comedy Central. His film credits include Chris Rock's cult film Pootie Tang, Funny People, Scary Movie 4, and Los Enchiladas, with the comedian also appearing in the Schumer comedies Trainwreck and I Feel Pretty. His television credits, meanwhile, include, Diffiult People, Bob's Burgers, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Inside Amy Schumer, Louie, Ed, and Everybody Loves Raymond. Attell was named one of the "25 Funniest People in America" by Entertainment Weekly, and when not on the road, the standup makes regular appearances at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.
