Fright Night in the District of Rock Island -- October 27.

Friday, October 27, 5 – 8 p.m.

The District of Rock Island IL

A fun, safe, and eagerly anticipated Halloween event for families returns to the area on October 27, as the District of Rock Island hosts the 2018 Fright Night in the District, an evening boasting trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, and more presented by Modern Woodmen of America, Rock Island Parks & Recreation, the Rock Island County Project, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center.

At this year's Fright Night, attendees will have the chance to parade in their costumes, participate in Halloween activities, and meet local mascots, with live DJ Jeff James providing dance music throughout the event's three hours. Further entertainment will be delivered through a performance by the Metropolitan Youth Program Drum Corps & Drill Team, plus the Quad Cities' Dancing Zombie Group offer what they deem “scare and flair.” Several community agencies and downtown businesses will also host Halloween-themed activities, and children can pick up a scavenger-hunt sheet that includes a map of the trick-or-treat locations at downtown businesses. Participants may return their completed sheets at Fright Night's goodie-bag table, and a special prize winner will be drawn from all the completed entries.

All Fright Night attendees are invited to participate in the annual costume parade starting at 6 p.m., which will begin at the District's Plaza Stage and continue down Second Avenue. Meanwhile, more candy and fun will be shared in the no-line/no-registration costume contest, with surprise costume judging taking place on Second Avenue between 6 and 7:30 p.m. Judges will be looking for event participation, effort put into costume design, and enthusiasm, and prize winners will be picked out of the crowd at random for prizes. Huckleberry’s Pizza will also be selling pizza by the slice in the District, and all other downtown restaurants will offer full menu items.

Entrance to the 2018 Fright Night in the District is free of charge, the event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m., and more information is available by calling (309)788-6311 or visiting DowntownRockIsland.org.
