
Author Talk: Miguel Rosales at the Figge Art Museum -- June 26.

With the author visiting the Davenport venue to discuss his new book Bridges as Structural Art that features the the Quad Cities' I-74 Bridge, Miguel Rosales takes part in a June 26 author talk at the Figge Art Museum, his conversation followed by a Q&A session with the audience and a book signing.
Released in hardcover this past January, Bridges as Structural Art features 25 bridges designed by Miguel Rosales and his firm Rosales + Partners, Inc., a company characterized by a unique combination of architectural sensitivity, engineering knowledge, and communication skills that allows it to create iconic, cost-effective and technically innovative bridges. These transformational bridges have become a source of pride in the areas in which they have been built and tangible expressions of the art of bridge design.
Rosales was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where he received a degree in architecture at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin. In 1985, he enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to study Urban and Environmental Design, obtaining a SMArchS (Master of Science in Architecture Studies) degree in 1987.
Afterward, he became an award-winning bridge designer and architect, as well as president of Rosales + Partners, Inc., which he started in 1997. Recognized internationally as an expert on bridge aesthetics and design, Rosales is noted for his practical ability to balance technical requirements and visual principles into a holistic design approach. In addition to the Quad Cities' I-74 Bridge, some examples of Rosales' bridges include: the Phyllis J. Tilley Memorial Bridge over the Trinity River in Fort Worth, Texas, completed in 2012; the Christina and John Markey Memorial Pedestrian Bridge, completed in 2013; the Moody Pedestrian Bridge, completed in 2016 in Austin Texas; and the Frances Appleton Pedestrian Bridge and Longfellow Bridge Restoration completed in 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts.
