“Music & Mocktails: Know Your Music with Tony Oliver" at the Bettendorf Public Library -- February 26.

On February 26, patrons of the Bettendorf Public Library are invited to brings their love of listening, curiosity, and the title of a musical piece they like to the program Music & Mocktails: Know Your Music with Tony Oliver, an interactive session featuring tasty beverages and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra percussionist speaking on rhythm, melody, harmony, and how the three shape your favorite music.

Tony Oliver is an assistant professor of music at Rock Island's Augustana College and teaches percussion and musicianship, also directing the all campus concert band. When away from Augustana, he is often a clinician and adjudicator for percussion events, and is particularly involved in the New Horizons Music program, a lifelong learning environment designed around the older adult musician. In addition to performing with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra,

Oliver is the solo percussionist and timpanist for the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and various other chamber and solo engagements round out his performance schedule each year. He received degrees from the University of Iowa (BM, MA) and from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University (DMA), and serves as a regional education artist for Pearl/Adams percussion, a Sabian cymbal artist, and proprietor of Curving Walkway Publications, whose percussion publications have been performed throughout North America and Europe.

Music & Mocktails: Know Your Music with Tony Oliver will take place in the library's Bettendorf and Gilbert Rooms on February 26, participation in the 7 p.m. program is free, and more information is available by calling (563)344-4175 and visiting BettendorfLibrary.org.
