Appearing in a special “Evenings at Butterworth” event, archivist, writer, and speaker Neil Dahlstrom will deliver a October 22 program at Moline's Butterworth center, the presenter and Quad Cities native's books including Tractor Wars: John Deere, Henry Ford, International Harvester, and The Birth of Modern Agriculture.

Dahlstrom studied history and classics at Monmouth College, and earned his masters degree in Historical Administration at Eastern Illinois University. There, he was an intern with the Illinois State Archives through the IRAD (Illinois Regional Archives Depository) program. His research and speeches have taken him to historical societies and museums, abandoned factories-turned-coffee shops, and state-of-the-art research centers across the country. Dahlstrom has also spent more than 20 years as the archivist and historian at Fortune 100 company John Deere, and is a member of the Kitchen Cabinet, the Food and Agriculture Advisory Board at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and Visit Quad Cities.

Among Dahlstrom's numerous nonfiction books are The John Deere Story: A Biography of Plowmakers John and Charles Deere (Northern Illinois University Press, 2005), and Lincoln’s Wrath: Fierce Mobs, Brilliant Scoundrels, and a President’s Mission to Destroy the Press (Sourcebooks, 2005). Reviewing the author's Tractor Wars, meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal raved: ""Mr. Dahlstrom...has written a superb history of the tractor and this long-forgotten period of capitalism in U.S. agriculture. We now know the whole story of when farming, business and the free-market economy diverged, divided and conquered." In addition to the release of these two works, Dahlstrom built a career in corporate archives, as well as agricultural and brand history.

Neil Dahlstrom will presents his "Evenings at Butterworth" program on October 22, participation in the 6:30 p.m. event is free, and more information is available by calling 309-743-2700 and visiting ButterworthCenter.com.
