CLIVE, Iowa – A $100,000-winning scratch ticket was sold in Bettendorf last week.
On Thursday, Orintha Galella of Moline, Ill. claimed the ninth of 12 top prizes of $100,000 available in the Iowa Lottery’s “$100,000 Mega Crossword” scratch game. Galella’s husband, John, bought the winning ticket Wednesday at Tobacco Outlet Plus, 2312 State St. in Bettendorf.
The 63-year-old retiree is no stranger to winning big lottery prizes. She also won a $100,000 prize in 2011 playing a previously offered lotto game called the “$100,000 Cash Game”.
Galella said she knew right away that she’d won this time.
“I checked it about five times,” Galella told lottery employees Thursday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids.
“I didn’t think we’d hit it once, let alone twice,” she said. “It feels better (this time) because we have a daughter who needs help; now we can help her.”
The couple says they plan to share a portion of their lottery winnings with their children and save the rest.
The $100,000 Mega Crossword scratch game is a $10 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery’s website, www.ialottery.com.
