Tickets for “Party with a Purpose” Now Available
IA/IL QUAD-CITIES – This June, hundreds of live lobsters will be flown from New England to the Quad-City International Airport. Then they will be rushed to the kitchens of the 10th Annual Bettendorf Rotary Lobsterfest. Later, some 300 Quad-Citians will sit down to a New England-style feast of lobster, corn on the cob, and more. Tickets are now available for this one-night “party with a purpose,” as members often call it.
This year’s Bettendorf Rotary Lobsterfest will take place 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Rivermont Collegiate, 1821 Sunset Drive, Bettendorf, IA. The event will include a live auction and raffle. Presenting sponsors are Abbey Carpet Gallery and Triumph Community Bank. Tickets are on sale for $75 each, or $520 for a table of eight, and can be purchased by calling (563) 445‐4264 or visiting www.bettendorfrotary.com/tickets. The event is open to the general public.
“Good times never grow old. That's one reason Lobsterfest endures and grows 10 years after it started,” said Kevin Kraft, President of the Bettendorf Rotary Club. “But we never would have had a repeat performance if it wasn’t for the generosity and hard work of every member of our club each year. Between generous sponsorships, auction donations and ticket sales, our members reach into their pockets and reach out to the entire Quad City community to support us each year, and the community has responded in a big way.”
“Lobsterfest raises a lot of money that goes directly back into our local community through our grant award process and scholarships,” said Kristine Stone, Bettendorf City Attorney and a Co-Chair of Lobsterfest. “The funds raised support a wide variety of groups and activities. It is such an honor to be part of that process.”
The Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Culinary Arts Program, a major Supporting Sponsor, will assist in preparations for the evening. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rotary Charities Fund to help with Rotary Club charitable projects.
Last year’s Lobsterfest garnered almost $60,000 through sponsorships and auction donations. Proceeds funded $22,500 in grants, which went to 12 not-for-profit organizations serving the Quad Cities. In addition to the grants, proceeds will be used to award $7,000 in scholarship funds to students from Pleasant Valley and Bettendorf High Schools, Rivermont Collegiate, and Scott Community College. Remaining proceeds went to the Bettendorf Rotary's foundation for future charitable causes.
“This year's event offers a fun chance to win a valuable diamond,” Kraft said, “but since we haven't announced details to our members yet, I can't reveal what that will be. The best way to find out – and to have a shot at the diamond – is to attend Lobsterfest.”
