Patty Judge and Garrison Keillor challenge Chuck Grassley to Dairy Queen debate

DES MOINES, Iowa – After months of stonewalling and radio silence by Chuck Grassley’s campaign, Patty Judge challenged Grassley to a Dairy Queen debate series in Iowa’s four largest media markets.

“Chuck Grassley has been ducking debates and debate negotiations for months, so we decided to sweeten the deal and offer debates on his home turf at Dairy Queen,” said Patty Judge Spokesperson Sam Roecker. “He’s at DQ all the time anyway, so he might as well use the opportunity to talk to Iowans while enjoying 'you know what.' We’ll provide the Blizzards and sundaes if he shows up to explain to Iowans why his commitment to representing Iowa has melted in recent years.”

In a video released this morning, creator and former host of A Prairie Home Companion, Garrison Keillor offers to moderate a Dairy Queen debate between Judge and Grassley.

So far, Chuck Grassley has obstructed negotiations for a series of statewide debates with the Judge campaign and media outlets across the state. He has refused to accept offers from Iowa media in Des Moines, Davenport, Sioux City, and Cedar Rapids, only agreeing to one televised debate that doesn’t take place until the end of October after many Iowans have already cast their ballot. Grassley and his campaign staff are denying Iowa news organizations another opportunity to inform voters before Election Day.

Judge has accepted debate invitations across Iowa and will continue to call for live, televised debates – which she’s willing to participate in at Dairy Queens or any other location Chuck Grassley finds acceptable.
