Now through November 8th, students in grades 5-12 who volunteer can apply for local, state and national honors at http://spirit.prudential.com or call 855.670.4787.
The awards program, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honors middle level and high school students for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Honorees are selected in every state and the District of Columbia, and top honorees earn cash prizes and all-expense-paid trips to the nation’s capital.
To apply, students must complete an application at http://spirit.prudential.com by November 8th, then submit it for certification to a school principal or head of a county 4-H organization, Girl Scout council, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA or HandsOn Network affiliate. These schools and participating organizations then select Local Honorees, whose applications advance to state-level judging.
State Honorees – the top middle level and high school volunteer in each state and the District of Columbia – receive $1,000 awards, engraved silver medallions, and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C., with a parent for four days of recognition events. Runners-up at the state level receive bronze medallions or Certificates of Excellence.
In Washington, 10 of the 102 State Honorees – five middle level students and five high school students – are named America’s top youth volunteers of the year. These National Honorees receive $5,000, gold medallions, crystal trophies for their nominating schools or organizations, and $5,000 Prudential Foundation grants for charities of their choice.
