Rock Island, IL: If you're resolved to learn more about your family roots in 2016, the Rock Island Library is ready to help with a free program at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Main Library, 401 19th Street.
The Begin Genealogy Here program will provide attendees with an overview of the various tools and resources available for researching local history and genealogy at the library, including the library's new overhead book scan center and microfilm scanning system. The tour includes the library's computer and online tools, microfilm room, material stacks and local history room. Begin Genealogy Here tour participants should meet in the Community Room, on the second floor of the Main Library. The program is free and does not require registration.
The new microfilm and book scanner were purchased with funds from the Rock Island Public Library Foundation, a private 501c3 foundation established in 1986 to fund special equipment, program, material and beautification needs of the Rock Island Public Library.
