(DES MOINES) – Governor Terry E. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today will present the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Governor’s Cup ROTC Award for outstanding achievement to eight students from The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Dubuque, Buena Vista University, and University of Northern Iowa.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 7th at 11:30 a.m. at the Iowa State Capitol in the Robert D. Ray Conference Room.

The awards are presented annually by Governor Branstad to top students in ten ROTC programs at seven universities.  The awards “honor the cadets for leadership, academics, and military achievement.”

Receiving this year’s awards will be:

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Paul A. Beard, University of Dubuque Army ROTC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beard of Davenport, Iowa.

Cadet Colonel Katherine A. Carr, University of Iowa Air Force ROTC, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carr of Grimes, Iowa.

Cadet Second Lieutenant Brandy N. Fowler, Buena Vista University Army ROTC, the daughter of Mr. Gregory Fowler of LeMars, Iowa and Ms. Rebecca Fowler of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Cadet Second Lieutenant Evan M. Ireland, Iowa State University Army ROTC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ireland of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Taylor M. Julander, University of Northern Iowa Army ROTC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Julander of Altoona, Iowa.

Midshipman First Class Adam G. Pollard, Iowa State University Naval ROTC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Pollard of Omaha, Nebraska.

Cadet Colonel Benjamin J. Shaffer, Iowa State University Air Force ROTC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shaffer of Lakeville, Minnesota.

Cadet Captain Michael Whetstone, University of Iowa Army ROTC, the son of Mr. Michael Whetstone of Ely, Iowa.
