Community Caring Conference volunteers plan to go door to door around the Church of Peace in Rock Island, Saturday, April 2, 1-4 pm. They will be inviting neighbors to come together to share their concerns about the area where they live on the following Saturday. This ACTion plan was recently approved by the Board of Directors so that the Community Caring Conference could rebuild block clubs in a targeted area.
“CCC is needed, and rebuilding it takes volunteers who want to improve our neighborhoods. We have chosen a specific area to start this process,” said Paul Fessler, Chair of the CCC Board. “We urge residents to help us make ACTion a success.”
After two years without an Executive Director, many CCC-affiliated block clubs have become inactive. On Saturday afternoon, volunteers will canvass an area with invitations calling for residents to come to the Church of Peace community room, Saturday, April 9, 2-4 pm, to discuss their concerns and ideas for neighborhood improvement. The church is at 12th St. and 12th Ave. in Rock Island. After selecting priorities from small groups brainstorming sessions, CCC leaders will be working to find residents who want to form active groups.
Identifying T shirts will be given to door to door volunteers, April 2. At the general meeting of neighbors on April 9, three HyVee gift cards will be given away to participants at the conclusion of the meeting. Refreshments will be served. Childcare for children up to First grade will be available under licensed care workers.
The current Board of Directors include, Paul Fessler, Chairman; Lt. Rusty Hocker, Vice-Chair, Ethel Bassett , Secretary, and Jeff Barnes, Treasurer. Additional members are Mattie Seward, Rev. Ken Kuenning, Vikki Blair, Rick Miers, Phil Dennis. Pat Ward, former Director of the CCC, is helping advise the new Board.
