September 5, 2013 - The Rock Island Community Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to Christian Care's Domestic Violence Shelter in Rock Island. "Christian Care is especially grateful to the Rock Island Community Foundation for supporting our services for abused women and their children," said Dr. Elaine Winter, the shelter's Executive Director. "This grant will provide us with the means not only to serve abused women and their children, but also will enable us to help women change and shape their lives in a way they never thought possible."
Christian Care is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operating two facilities?a domestic violence shelter for women and children and a rescue mission for homeless men. It serves homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, veterans, men and women coming out of prison, and those with mental illness.
Its community meal site is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays Monday through Friday, and for breakfast and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
